3M Fire Barrier Pillows

Posted on December 4, 2020

3M Fire Barrier Pillows are a reliable, cost-effective, and easy-to-install fire protection product. These barrier pillows prevent fire, smoke, and toxins from easily spreading from one room or floor to another through through-wall openings. In this article, we highlight the product’s features, applications, and more.

3M Fire Barrier Pillows Overview

3M Fire Barrier Pillows are used to create a seal around through-wall openings, such as HVAC and cable pass-throughs. They protect from flames, smoke, and toxic gases for up to three hours. Made of high-quality, graphite-free materials, they can be used around electrical conduits without concern. The pillows are easy-to-install since they do not require the use of wire mesh. All of the above can make 3M Fire Barrier pillows a great solution for your next job, which we explain in further detail below.

How Do 3M Fire Barrier Pillows Work?

3M Fire Barrier Pillows are intumescent, meaning they swell when heated and expand to form a “hard char” that provides a tight seal, preventing the spread of flames, smoke, and toxic gases. This hard char seal adds the necessary firestop protection for medium to large openings containing communication or power cables, conduits, and such for up to three hours.

Re-Usable & Re-Enterable

Both architects and contractors are turning to 3M Fire Barrier Pillows to meet fire-rating standards. They are ideal because they are self-contained, re-usable, and re-enterable fire stops. Since they are re-usable, they are an excellent temporary solution that you can use from job to job.

They are also re-enterable, which means they can be removed to access whatever they are sealing off and then be placed back into position. For instance, if you need to run more cables, you can remove the pillows that are in the way, install the cables, and “re-enter” the pillows into the opening.

Burke Vac-Q-Roof

Posted on February 18, 2020

In particular areas of the country, strong winds will test the stability of a roofing system and cause damage requiring expensive repairs. When designing a roofing system in these areas, one brilliantly created system is the Burkeline Vac-Q-Roof. Strategically placed Vac-Q-Vents create a vacuum under the roofing membrane when high winds cause the vents to spin. This system uses the power of the wind to secure the roof rather than blow it off!
